I love sleep. I am sure I am not the only one. I am actually thinking about sleep right now so probably will keep this short. Sleep is essential to allow us to process our lives and as it is World Sleep Day it felt only right to comment on this today.
Most adults need about 7-9 hours of sleep a day, which is a large proportion of the day and so we need to ensure we are getting it right and making it count. I could here discuss sleep hygiene but you can find that from many websites on the internet, including the NHS. I am going to recommend that you relish in sleep today.
Often I have heard people say that if all you do is sleep, then you are missing out on life, or you can sleep when you are dead but I would not necessarily agree. Sleep is vital for many processes to take place, including healing mentally and physically.
Let us take peace in knowing that most of us are going to bed safely this night, that we have the opportunity to process and heal. Let us take lead from our bodies in knowing that they know how much sleep we need and if sleep evades you I pray that sleep will once again nourish your body soon.
“In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).
